In devastating news last week, a man was caught on video abandoning a golden retriever and a pot-bellied pig at the Tuscarawas County Humane Society (TCHS) at night of March 13, 2019.
The staff from the County Society found the dog and the pig later that night and surrendered the two to a humane officer. According to Haley Predragovich, the shelter director of the TCHS, the pig had unmaintained feet, resulting in the pig’s poor walking.
The County Society, later on, tried to track down the owner, but he was wearing a mask on the video. His vehicle’s plate number was also not readable on the video because of darkness as it was late at night.
The video was uploaded on the internet and immediately went viral. It was a blessing in disguise since a mother, and her daughter saw the video and took action. Kelli Stark and daughter Grace Erb are running Maplewood Farm in Louisville. Both agreed to adopt the two animals.
Erb said that when she saw the golden retriever, there was a sting in her hear about adopting the pooch, but later realized that they also need to take the pig with the pooch.
The mother and daughter admitted that they had rescued many animals in the past including dogs, pigs, and horses. In fact, they already have 17 pigs under their care. For them, it is imperative to adopt and take care of animals since they have a farm.
They were chosen from a laundry list of applicants since they already have a background of caring for animals, and the County Society believes they can provide the two animals with a loving environment.
Just a week after they were abandoned, the golden retriever and the pig found a forever and loving home through the help of Stark and Erb. The mother and daughter vowed to raise the two well.
