Dogs riding in buses is not an uncommon sight, but in Seattle, there’s a black Labrador and Mastiff mix that rides the bus on the way to the dog park—and she does it all by herself.
The adorable dog named Eclipse caught the attention of passengers when they noticed she was traveling unaccompanied. At first, people couldn’t believe their eyes, but soon they realized the dog didn’t get lost or board the bus by mistake. She knew exactly what she was doing.
She would get on the bus and “use” the bus ticket attached to her pink collar. Then she would promptly find a seat. When the bus arrives at her stop, she would walk near the door and go down the bus after the door opens, just like any human would do.
Sometimes Eclipse makes friends along the way as she shares a seat with other passengers. They like to pet her, and she doesn’t complain. The bus drivers know her, too.
So how did she learn how to ride a bus on her own? Eclipse often went to the dog park with her owner, Jeff. While waiting for the bus, Jeff would sometimes light up a cigarette.
In one instance, he hadn’t finished smoking yet when the bus arrived, so he didn’t get on. Eclipse, however, already knew the drill (and she wanted to go to the park already) so she got on the bus without him. Jeff caught up with her at the park. That was how Eclipse’s solo bus riding habit began.
Eclipse has captivated so many people. When she boards the bus, passengers would snap photos of her or record her video on their phones. They occasionally took selfies with her.
A Facebook page created for her has gained about 40,000 followers. There’s also a song dedicated to her called ‘Bus Doggy Dog.’ The bus riding black pooch has undoubtedly caught the hearts of the people of Seattle and beyond.
