Odin is a loveable and playful Alaskan malamute. At first glance, you might say that he is in good shape. However, the truth is, currently, he is still undergoing treatments for his heartworms. After this, his adopted mom would then need to have his teeth corrected.
Why is such a healthy-looking dog with a loving family who takes good care of him have to undergo some treatments? Well, Odin was once an unfortunate dog.
He did not look as healthy before. In fact, if you take a look at his rescue photos, you will not be able to recognize him at all.
The once poor pup was owned by breeders who never had the heart to take good care of him. His living conditions way back then were very meager. He doesn’t look like an Alaskan malamute at all; his fur was very sparse, and his eyes radiated sadness and fear.
The rescuers from Southern Cross Animal Rescue of Mississippi and Southern Pines Animal Shelter were the ones responsible for his second chance. After they rescued the abandoned dog, he was given to Sydney Schelkopf for fostering.
Sydney claimed that seeing Odin for the first time broke her heart. He has lots of wounds, skin infections and he appeared starved and malnourished. When she brought her to her house, he acted so naïve and bewildered which made her think that he might have never been in a home before.
As a pup, he was not able to live a normal life, so he didn’t know how to act normally, let alone play with toys. Sydney knew that he needed all the love and care that she can give, and so she made up her mind to adopt Odin.
Few months after Sydney took in Odin, the once emaciated pup looks very different. His fur is now fluffy and shiny, and his eyes are filled with friendliness and joy.
