When the Hope For Paws organization received a tip that a rather senior-looking dog had been wandering around the area where a water treatment facility was located, they wasted no time and got to work. They went there to see for themselves what it was exactly that kept the dog from leaving. When they arrived, they found him sitting near the tanks, and seemed to be doing just fine.
Except, the open tanks near the spot where he was sitting contained harmful chemicals and one wrong move could spell disaster for him and his rescuers. The folks from the Hope For Paws organization were determined not to let this happen though. They tried to lure him in by giving him pieces of a burger they’d bought on the way, and while did show interest, in the end, he much more interested in keeping his distance.
Dogs don’t just end up living in water treatment facilities, however. It was likely that he was treated roughly by a previous master before he became homeless and settled in the area. Which would explain why he was reluctant to receive food from his rescuers. They knew they had to act quickly or they’d risk having the dog run off on them in a place that does not lend itself to dog chasing.
Luckily, there was a flight of stairs that lead to an elevated part of the facility, and they opted to secure him from above with a snare. The poor creature was so startled that he urinated as he struggled against the material. He eventually calmed down after one of the staff promised him that everything was going to be okay, low, soothing voice and all.
In the car, he displayed a far friendlier disposition, accepting treats and leaning towards the touch when being petted. Once he arrived at the shelter, he was given the usual check-up as well as a bath to remove the smell of the sewer from his skin. So much had changed in his demeanor already, and his new life was just beginning.
He was given the name Mufasa. He is a senior dog with a murky past, but he still has a lot of love to give.
